Manufactured by Dodge division of DaimlerChrysler, the Dodge Caliber is a compact car replacing the Neon. This model went on sale in the springs of 2006 as a 2007 model year and was first shown at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. It is a five-door hatchback nearly the size of the Dodge Neon. It has styling elements derivative of larger Dodge vehicles, such as a crosshair grille and large flared fenders. The Caliber is one of the first modern Dodge-branded vehicles for sale at the North American International Auto Show. The main competitors of the Dodge Caliber include the new Chevy HHR, the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe and the new Nissan Versa and Suzuki SX4. The Caliber offers a continuously variable transmission sourced from a Nissan subsidiary Jatco which is the DaimlerChrysler model to employ the technology after the Mercedes-Benz A class. It is also equipped with a four cylinder 1.8 – 2.4 L GEMA gasoline engine. Another outstanding feature is the optional electronically-controlled all-wheel drive system with variable torque between speeds of 25 and 65 mph for maximum handling. Each Caliber uses GS platform, co-designed with Mitsubishi Motors. It actually shares the same platform with the Mitsubishi Lancer although it is most similar to the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot. The Caliber is produced where its predecessor was produced – Belvidere Assembly in Illinois. Dodge introduced the Caliber along with a right-hand drive version of the Viper Coupe as start out models in Asia. It brings so much pride to have owned this stunning vehicle.
